A weekend of scrapping goals fulfilled? I don’t think so tim!

Hehe….I had to include that one liner from ‘Home Improvement’ – you know, Tim ‘the tool man’ Taylor!? I used to love that show!!

Firstly thanks for the job encouragement girls, I really appreciate it!! I was browsing some short courses and came across the Design Studies Series at RMIT – it includes a series of four short courses, and if you do them all you can get a Certificate 4 in Design!
I’m really interested in starting with either ‘Creative Graphic design’ or ‘Graphic Communication’. I love the idea of the first one (as it involves scrapbooking type things- mixed media etc), but I think the second could really improve my job skills, as it applies to signage, typography, business identity, promotional materials and the like…. I’ve got my performance review this week at work- and plan on bringing it up as a way of me developing further skills that I can utilise for work… I plan on organising an appointment to talk with someone about it this week as it starts on the 24 July – and I need to raise $565 to pay for it! (eek)

Anyways, onto scrapping and weekend activities - you know all those goals I set for myself? Well I achieve some of them…. Ahem! Ok….not many : (…. I ‘put together’/planned a few layouts, got bits and pieces together ready to scrap – for my ‘heritage’ layout, one layout for 2006, and one layout for my ‘SIL’s’ baby album. I started, and to my astonishment completed a project I’m working on for Lusi Austin’s top ten!! Yup, finished – I suppose that’s because I’ve spent the last two weeks planning, sketching, researching, buying and dreaming of making it!! :) hehe.....

I also completed a ‘this year’ layout – which I’ve only recently started doing. I used to be a chronological scrapper, working from layouts of years passed (I’m currently up to 2006 photos), but I’ve started scrapping ‘now’ layouts, layouts about me….and present, and recent photos – I tell you what, it’s really boost my creative passion and inspiration!! Here’s the layout below, I got the journaling idea from the wonderful Jessie Fulkerson! her journaling on 'Now: June 2008' was the prompt- thanks Jessie!!

The reason why I didn’t scrap as a planned, I had an x-ray for my teeth (I might have to get 2 wisdom teeth out), I went shopping, well really ‘returning’ broken shoes, but i picked up some new work clothes from valley girl and a cute lil beanie from sportsgirl (as shown below!!) I also cleaned the apartment (we got a new BIG 500L fridge!!) I spent Saturday scrapping till about 12 while my b/f and his mates were out drinking.

Sunday, I woke early while the boys were still very hungover asleep, and went to the gym (on a Sunday morning) – gold star effort I say! I did the grocery’s alone, and got to my car to find a parking ticket! I’d been shopping there for months, and didn’t think you had to buy tickets on a Sunday- but obviously you DO!! ARghh---- so my grocery’s turned out to be $66 extra!! Stupid parking….I cooked a big casserole in my slow cooker, backed yummy healthy banana muffins for ‘smoko’….and that’s about it…..

Banana muffin recipe
- 3 bananas (tip use really ripe, blackish ones, they mash better)
- Tablespoon honey
- 1 cup milk
- 1 ½ cups self raising flour
- ½ cup wholemeal flour
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons margarine
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Tablespoon natural yoghurt
- ¾ cup brown sugar

Method: Mash banana with a fork in a small bowl, blend a bit with a tablespoon of yoghurt. Put banana, milk, vanilla, egg and margarine in a mixer – mix until combined. Sift SR flour, wholemeal flour into mixer, along with brown sugar, mix until combined. Put into muffin tins with patty pans if you wish, and bake 180 degress for 20-25 mins, until golden.

(makes 12-14)
Enjoy. XX

the 'right' job

You know when you get that feeling that you need to scrap so bad- it’s all you think about when you’re at work? No? Then maybe I’m a little insane….I’m not sure whether work is creatively stimulating enough…..

I’ll share a little story with you…Once upon I time – or back when I finished Year 12 I had the dilemma of choosing between studying graphic arts/design etc. or journalism/public relations – I chose the more ‘trusty’ or path that would most likely get me a job at the end of my degree. Now don’t get me wrong, I love writing, planning, thinking strategically and creatively and organising but….now after working in a PR company for almost 8 months, I’m starting to wonder if I should be somewhere else….somewhere really using the right (creative) side of my brain. I spend spare seconds at work scouring blogs, scrapbook galleries, you get the picture – dreaming up ideas and layouts, too many of them for me to complete…..

Often I get home wanting to scrap all these ideas - I just can’t. Don’t get me wrong, I like my job, and am happy with it. I just wonder if there’s something else out there for me – writing/designing for a magazine, designing for a scrapbook company, working on a creative/design/PR firm (is there such a thing), or even working in a scrap shop, or be an interior designer…..I think I should’ve brought this up with my careers counsellor at uni! Any ideas? I need help...

Anyway…..last night, I got one thought down with some new supplies, and a good photo of a new friend and me from the retreat I went to a few weeks back, thought I’d share…. xx

a cape barren goose and lots to do!

Hmmm.. so last weekend I visited my boyfriends parents farm in central Victoria….We spent the weekend just, relaxing- it was wonderful! We had lunch in Echuca which was lovely, and wandered by the river, stopping to by some lollies (sweets) from the lolly shop!

A drive around the farm uncovered a mysterious bird. After taking a lot of photos, whispering (to not scare it away), guessing- a goose, a duck, a short legged ibis, a flamingo (why pink?), a grey water bird and laughing……We did a quick google search to uncover it was a cape barren goose- all by itself in the paddock! It was an amazing find, as they’re usually found in flocks…..this one was a poor lil loner!

Saturday night we visited my boyfriends Aunty and Uncle for tea. We had delicious stew and an Indian curry- yummo!! And also home-made banana fritters with ice cream, maple syrup and crushed nuts!!

On Sunday I did a lot of sleeping, and we drove back to Melbourne.

Can’t post without a pic, I’ve been dying to do some scrapping after scouring the internet for ideas for a few things and getting so much inspiration- it felt like the creative side of my brain was going to explode if I didn’t meet my scrapping urges….

A package came from littlescrapbookshop yesterday – with lots of cute love elsie paper- especially the cute as ‘you and me’ fabric paper I’d been wanting to have for, like, forever! So I sat down, and scrapped a page that had been waiting to be ‘stuck down’ (yes literally). I had to wait for a LO to come back from SM (from submission) so I could pop it in it’s album!!

I’ll leave you with that, I’ve got a BIG weekend of things planned- socially and scrapwise…..My b/f’s got mates coming over, so I might head out for drinks with them on Saturday night…..I’ve got to return some stinking shoes that broke- new ones too, oh and I’m see my boyfriends-cousins ne little baby :)….and scrapping, I think I’ll put up a little list of goals, and I’ll let you know if I get them done, ok?? Well here they are:

1.My own pages (heritage x1, family photo x1, 2006 layout x2, about me page x1, now:june 2008 page x1)
2.My ‘sister-in-laws’ baby album (complete 4 pages)
3.Article submission (shhh top secret- have to get my but into gear here- had ideas but to time to start em!)
4.SM Master entry – eek….I gotta finish my single LO and at least ½ finish the calendar.
5.OTP- make a ‘relax’ wall hanging for work

(Wish me luck, I’ll need it to complete all the above)

my first CJ

a CJ is a circle journal for those of you that might not know. A lovely girl by the name of Skye set up a 'Lessons Learnt' cirlce journal over at the Scrapbooking Memories Forum. My idea was 'Lesson's learnt from life's quotes' and has been sent on. I received Sandy's and completed my layout last night (after starting it over the weekend!!)
I stuck to Sandy's colour scheme and tried to match her ideas too, but staying true to my style - hope it worked out ok....

On another note, my boyfriend's cousin had a little baby boy a couple of days ago- which was amazing news!! I caught up with a friend for tea at The Lounge on Swanston St - yummo! Was so great to catch up- and she gave me a totally surprising belated birthday present- gorgeous silver filigree earrings (like ones I'd been looking to buy on etsy!) They're gorgeous- oval shaped with a lil bunch of trees in them....

ok. better start work. xxx

Oh happy day! :) :)

I received the most wonderful news today- Lusi Austin (yes scrapper superstar) has asked me to be a part of Lusi’s Top Ten in Scrapbook Creations! I can’t tell you what the theme is….it’s all ‘hush hush’ – you’ll have to wait till the issue 61 comes out!!

Oh my gosh, I couldn’t believe it! I’m dyeing to tell my mum- will be my first point of call (literally) when I finish work today!!!

Oh I’m happy and it’s a happy day…..(just had to share my good-happy news)
xx

woah baby!

Whoa baby! I had a long, busy weekend- I feel like I need another one just to relax...
The sex and the city movie was awesome- a happy/sad/though provoking kind of amazing! I had the best night out with a workmate and her friends, we even 'smuggled' in two bottles of wine! :O hehe...... We then went out to Revellers for a night of dancing....not home till late....

On the scrapping front, this weekend I didn't get much done.....I had a HUGE day of shopping on Saturday, basically spent 1/2 day at Highpoint, getting 'homely' stuff and a few new clothes and a rockin new pair of heels from Scooter!! :)
I also went to Ikea and got some organisational stuff for my scrap area and home decor stuff like pot plants, cooking stuff and cushions, I got these ones:
I got the two red boxes (you make yourself) for scrap stuff and the wooden box (you have to screw together- mind you it was worth it!!)
I think my scrap area looks much more organised!! What do you think? (PS. If you have any questions on how I organise my scrap space....shoot ahead!!)

twas a long weekend indeed....

So last weekend was spent at the parents farm again for the Queen’s birthday long weekend…..here’s a lil snapshot:
- I picked up my car (new CD player and working bits- fingers crossed no breakdowns in the near future)
- I caught up with a good friend from uni, we had lunch and did some shopping (I brought a gorgeous Ladakah dress for work!)
- I helped mum prepare tea- we had family friends over- salad and BBQ yummy!
- Was nice to get some country air back in the lungs
- I got a new haircut- yay for me- only $45!!
- Family lunch @ SS&A club in Albury and some shopping- a new skirt for work…..
- We then visisted my uncle and aunty (and my little counsins), had tea there- yummy roast!

And that’s about it, no photo’s sorry. This week’s pretty busy at work. I did a staff meeting 5 minute presentation today, and got some good feedback which was lovely!  This weekend I’m going to see Sex & the City with a work friend and some girls, then hitting the town- watch out Chapel ST!! I’m also planning to get a bit of housework done, some scrapbooking (a CJ page, personal pages, and few ‘me’ pages  loving those ATM, and some challenges too), I also plan on doing a spot of shopping…..

I’ve still got some birthday money, so I’m planning on buying a cake mixer, I’m also in the process of finally buying a scrapbook tote bag- off ebay…..and organizing my scrap space- I’m heading to the place that sucks you in, and risk never returning to a normal world- yep you guessed it….IKEA!! I’m going to get a couple of these (below)babies and probably pick up a few other nick nacks like, soup spoons, a wooden rolling pin, dough sheet, measuring cups and probably a million other things I decide to throw in the basket!

Have a good one. XX

weekend craziness

So I went to 'A scrappe angels heaven' retreat just outside of Melbourne over the weekend! and it was my first retreat, and it was SO much fun! I mean the best fun I've had in a LONG time!! :)
I borrowed my boyfriends-sister's car, Skye and I ventured up on Friday evening, arriving around 7.30- and I scrapped, talked and laughed till 2am in the morning!

The food was delicious over the weekend, from roasts, to homemade choc self saucing pudding, yummy soup and all sorts of things kept us 'revitalised' for countless hours of scrapping!!

I ended up scrapping a total of about 11 layouts (some for my [future] SIL's baby album-she's due in october) and some of my own layouts! I also finished off my CJ (for Skye's Lesson's learned CJ)- doing my page in it. I swapped with Sandy- her's is gorgous- I also got to see Skye's IRL- and it's just devine, all the pretty flowers on it are so gorgeous!!

A big thanks to Simmi, Skye, Emma, April, Sandy and Alz for making the weekend and blast and the ladies at ASAH- esp to Cindy- it was great to have the shop to buy whatever you needed, whenever! :) Oh and congrats to Sandy- top 3 for your name 'tag' and winning the comp over the weekend- you deserved it!

Thanks to Alz again- I fell in love with your bigshot and all your dies!! You're a doll!

I promise to post some piccy's up as soon as I take a few more, and upload them....After I got home last night, I ended up unpacking my scrap stuff then decided- oh I need to reorganise/clean out my spare room/scrap room wardrobe and reorganise my stash to suit my expanding scrap stuff!! hehe...oh and also, I am so buying a tote- like in the next few weeks- I need one! and BAD!
