Crafting: a scrapbook layout

Yes I've been scrapbooking, and it's been WAY too long.
You know when you get busy doing other things, when your spare room is just a little too cold to scrap in, it's unorganised and it's just too hard to be motivated to scrapbook?
Well that has been me over the past month or so basically! Poor effort me thinks!

So I've solved a few of those problems. I bought a great little heater for the spare room, cleaned up my supplies and even bought new ones. The last couple of nights have been quiet, so I checked back on my double page layout that had been sitting 1/4 started on my desk.

And I finished it tonight! :) Yay!

I'm trying to scrapbook older photos to fill up my albums, to save stockpiling a bunch of layouts without storing them properly.

So here's some from my 21st from 3 years ago.

Here's a few close ups...

I'll leave that for now...

love is...

+Image from Marta @ martawrites.com+

This little quote captured my attention today whilst reading through some of my favourite blogs at lunchtime...

"Love is a condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own."

It made me sit up a little straighter in my office chair and take a big swig (gulp) of water... because that is exactly what Brad and I were talking about last night. He wants me to be happy wherever I'm living, wherever I'm working and whatever I'm doing - coz it makes him happy.
Full stop.

That's it.

It really made me stop and smell the roses. No matter where we're living - whether it's in our OWN home in Geelong, sometimes in Melbourne, or in the French Riviera (I wish) - we'll be together and we're happy.

I love him and want him to be happy, because it hurts for him to be not.

If you're reading this, which you occassionaly do - I love you.

Forever. x

questions...

Do you ever wonder who reads your blog (if you have one)?

Lately as I've been blogging more and more, I wonder who reads my itty bitty blog. I see people are visiting from all around the world, from small towns in Australia, to parts of Europe and the US too!

I wonder if you find my blog interesting, boring, funny, inspiring, creative....

If you've been a long time reader, but no-time commenter, let me know, I'd love to meet you!

xx Ali

I'm dreaming of the time when you found me

"Absence from whom we love is worse than death". William Cowper

He's not here.
His wardrobe is almost empty, his shoes are not at the door, his work bag is not here...

He is in Melbourne a few nights a week, and I miss him.

He has just started staying up there for work, to break up the daily 2.5 hour commute. I know he will be better for it, be able to go to the gym, get more rest and work harder at work. But I can't help but feel a little disheartened. I thought us living together would be easier, we'd be able to save for a holiday, spend MORE time together and be us - in our own little home. But now I can't help but feel that is all falling apart, I don't want this to turn into what it used to be - to seeing each other on weekends, traveling to see each other and living in two places.

I don't want that, I want to be settled in our house, living here together, having friends over (space permitting), and being here in Geelong together. But now it's different, I live in Geelong, I have friends here, I play indoor soccer, I work here, have friends at work, go to the gym and love the area I live, and my lil house. He... he lives mainly in Melbourne, goes to the gym, lives with a mate, works up there and has friends up there.

I feel as though I'm at a cross roads there is a lot going on, and a lot of things I want to do. I just don't know where to start.
I just miss him... and want him to be here with me and not somewhere else half the time...

I don't want to wait....

musical chairs...

I've been loving music lately, Lifehouse, Paramore, and Michael Paynter...

Who you ask?

This guy, who I met at a JB Hi Fi instore performance and his EP launch on Saturday! :)

You may have heard his song with The Veronica's on the radio lately, "Love the Fall"??

I also got him to sign the EP I bought. It was a great afternoon and he's an awesome performer! Not only can he sing, but also play the guitar and piano!

Here's a few pictures of the instore:

Be sure to check him out!

Scrapbooking Diva!!

I entered Scrapbook Creations (Australian scrapbooking magazine) Design Diva competition...
and failed...

So I'm sharing my entry here!!

"Part Time Diva" layout

And now for the cute mini album I made to match. I thought I'd go for a little different approach and angle the 'Housework Diva' angle! haha!

I loved using Studio Calico's Home Front line!

I love this little album - a tongue-in-cheek look at housework. I am a little bit of a Diva when it does come to house - but I love the little comments I made for this album!! haha!

What are some of your Diva antics?

Run Melbourne 2010 - 10km recap

Run Melbourne - the breakdown...
Yesterday I completed my first ever fun run. That's right I completed my first ever 10km fun run.
Jayne, a friend of mine and I had been 'training' about once a week for this run quite a few months back.
We'd been running 6km once a week on top of our other activities (gym, indoor soccer and other runs).

I was quite nervous about competing in this 10km fun run, considering I'd never run more than 6km in "one sitting".

So Jayne and I met up at Fed Square yesterday to compete in the charity fun run, Run Melbourne.
17,665 thousand people took part in the 5km, 10km and half marathon (21km) run - in total raising more than $969,463 for various charities.

Thanks to my friends and family who donated - I raised a total of $190 for Breast Cancer Australia. A close family member was diagnosed with Breast Cancer earlier this year and has undergone treatment. So I did this run for her.

So... Jayne and I signed up for the 10km - and aimed to get it done in under 60minutes.

RACE DAY:
I stayed in Melbourne the night before to get a good night's sleep. I woke at a bit after 7am, changed, refreshed and ate a tiny bowl of porriage. I caught the train to Fed Square and drank gatorade on the way.

I met up with Jayne and her boyfriend (who looked after our gear), we then walked to the start line and stretched up...

Here's just a snapshot taken from the Run Melbourne website of the start of the 10km run...

We waited and waited until our 'wave' was called... nervously we talked to each other, laughed, looked at our competitors and waiting until that horn sounded. About 20minutes after 9am that horn sounded!

The 10km route:

We were off! Us, with a crowd around us started to jog, around the end of the first kilometer we had started to distance ourselves from everyone else - we had all started to get our own pace. Between km 1 and 2, Jayne and I found the 60minute pace 'people' - and planted ourselves on their heels for the next couple of km's. We had to go up a little hill, and then another, and had an awesome run down this bigger hill - giving us time to relax. This put us at around the 5 - 6km mark. We were enjoying the various DJ's and bands that were playing along the way and focused on keeping our pace, by this time we had overtaken the 60minute "pace people".

From here on, I struggled for a couple of kilometers, just keeping the pace - I must admit by this time I was BUSTING to go to the toilet! haha! I couldn't stop to go to the toilet - no way. So we endured. After a little bit I got a second wind, we only had a few km's to go - and we kept going... along wellington parade, down batman avenue - the last little leg - and around the corner to the home straight!

and then POW - out the corner of my eye I spotted Brad! :) I was so surprised, waived and then instantly wanted to give him a hug and finish. Then Jayne said, sprint!

So I did, I ran hard and as fast as my legs could give me - and I crossed the line! It was the best feeling, I felt like I instantly stopped, and then I wanted to go to the toilet. And I couldn't be any happier. It was the BEST feeling!!

Run Melbourne sent me a text message last night - I completed the course in 58:59minutes - and came 3618 (I don't know out of how many).

I can't tell you how sore my legs and knees were yesterday, my calves (which usually get tight) were ok, but my quadriceps were so sore, and knees - boy I could hardly bend them! I felt like I was walking with a pole up my bum! haha!
Tonight as I write this, my legs are less weary, although mentally I'm exhausted.

I'm so happy I completed one of my MAIN goals for 2010 - and I'm only half way through the year! I feel like I'm on now on the fun run band wagon - my aim now is to complete a 12km run in Geelong - Run Geelong - for the Cotton On Foundation - on the 21st of November.

Thanks so much for your encouragement over the last few months while I've been training.

Grateful for

+Vol25 Print - Etsy+

As I was browsing through my google reader over lunch yesterday I came across my friend, Mel's blog and a little post she had writen about what she was grateful for. She was inspired by her friend to write down ten things you're grateful for each day to encourage a positive outlook of life.

So here I go, a few things I was grateful for yesterday:

1. That my knee doesn't hurt so much today after injuring it at a fill in game of netball.
2. I spoke to my fantastic Dad on the phone to wish him a Happy 50th Birthday!
3. That I played another fun game of indoor soccer with some awesome chicks and we had our first EVER win - 3-1 and I kicked two goals!
4. I am grateful for having a steady income every two weeks.
5. That I have some wonderful people who I work with.
6. That I can snuggle on a cold winter's night.
7. I feel like I am getting somewhere in my career.
8. My boyfriend who always manages to rationalise my ranting and raving.
9.The shop down the road to buy my lunch (mine tasted digusting)!
10. Take-away food - sometimes all you need is for someone else to cook you dinner (even if it is McDonalds).

June Reflections

Hipstamatic iphone app:Lens: Helga Viking, Film: Pistil, Flash: None

A little reflecting on June. I've been really slack this month keeping my diary up to date. So I'm writing down a few things here.
This month was busy, stressfull, fun and tiresome. I was angry, happy and a little sad too.

Some points to remember:
  • Heading to the Brisbane Scrapbook Convention, teaching SOLD OUT classes, meeting up with new and old friends, spending time with work friends and having a laugh.
  • Enjoying a family birthday party.
  • Having an ear ache (boo!)
  • Meeting a friend for the first time - Miss Alice
  • Watching Sex in the City with a couple of great work friends.
  • Running... a total of 18km during the month of June.
  • Playing indoor soccer.
  • Spending time in the garden.
  • Hopefully buying the last of house furniture.
  • Going on dates with my lovely boyfriend.
  • Spending time at HOME watching movies, eating biscuits and drinking cups of tea under a warm doona.
  • Hearing devastating news.
  • Enjoying my new iphone.
  • Searching... and not finding.
  • Feeling lonely.
